Research Library's 40th Anniversary

Kudos to Library Committee and staff for pulling off a wonderful celebration September 8th marking the 40th anniversary of the McHenry County Historical Society's Research Library.

Craig Pfannkuche, genealogist and president of Memory Trail Research of Wonder Lake,  urged the roughly 60 attendees to “feel the stories” inside the library.

“There are hundreds and hundreds of people in those drawers, and they’re saying to me: Please tell our stories,” Pfannkuche told the group. Among them, he said, is a Harvard woman who founded the March of Dimes, a Marengo woman whose work in biochemistry laid the foundation for the Polio vaccine and the a Woodstock Civil War soldier who was murdered in an Alabama prison camp on the day he was to be released.
 
“That’s how good our stuff is,” Pfannkucke said of the archive.

It was wonderful that members got to take a peek behind he curtain. Research services are free to members and are available for a nominal charge to nonmembers.
