History minded quilters earn award

The Gazebo Valor Quilters, a group of about 40 women from the northwest suburbs who meet monthly at the American Community Bank in Huntley, received the Sponsors Award March 1 from the Veterans Network Committee of Northern Illinois for their work on the 2015 Honor Flight. Last August, 54 veterans of World War II, Korean War, ,Vietnam War, Desert Storm and campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan received Valor Quilts after a whirlwind visit to Washington, D.C. Since the Gazebo Quilters Guild in Huntley launched an area Quilts of Valor program in 2011 following a meeting at the McHenry County Historical Society Museum, it. presented about 900 patriotic quilts to deserving veterans. They presented four quilts at the Historical Museum in November and plan on returning Nov. 11, 2016, to honor other veterans with quilts.
